OFSTED

Ofsted inspectors are employed by the Government and visit schools to ensure standards are being maintained and children are achieving in line with expectations.

Inspection of Clifton Hampden CE primary School November 2019.

This inspection was carried out using a new inspection framework which came into effect from September 2019. This framework makes judgements about the school using criteria set out into five main areas. These are: The Quality of Education, Behaviour and Attitudes, Personal Development, Leadership and Management, and the Quality of Early Years Education. The school was judged to be good in all areas. The inspection report does not include all the verbal feedback we received, as Ofsted are now writing much shorter inspection reports.

Ofsted Report Highlights:

The school has been judged as a good school and the verbal feedback received from the inspectors on the day highlighted the many positive features of our school and noted the impact that this work has on the outcomes for all pupils. Here are some of the positive comments:
• Keeping children safe is at the forefront of the work of the school
• Safeguarding systems are rigorous.
• A recent focus on phonics has led to improved outcomes in the last two years. Phonics teaching is well matched to needs and phonics results are now excellent
• Staff use assessments of pupils effectively. They have benefited from training, networking and internal monitoring.
• Teachers know the teaching sequences which promote good progress. Learning is organised and planned well, pupils become increasingly confident from lesson to lesson.
• Teachers challenge misunderstandings and waste no time. Pupils add ideas of their own and are confident about their learning.
• Tasks are adjusted well to all pupil needs and pupils respond well.
• The wider curriculum offered is good with children benefitting from trips, regular Forest School sessions, and opportunities to perform.
• There is a consistent buzz of interest and talk of learning/older pupils listen attentively.
• The children have good learning habits.
• Pupils who have joined from Culham have settled well.
• Links with the church are valuable
• Parents are confident in leaders and in the progress of the amalgamation
• Breakfast club promotes independence
• Pupils are very reflective.

It was pleasing that the inspectors noted that we had made an extremely good start on developing the curriculum to ensure we are keeping up to date with current thinking, best practice models and reviewing teaching sequences to ensure the quality of education is effective for all learners.

The Senior Leaders and Governors of the school will continue to work together to ensure that effective action planning will address the key areas for improvement. Monitoring and staff training will also be focused on these key areas. As a leadership team, we will continue to drive improvements and build on the recent successes to ensure that all the children that attend Clifton Hampden Church of England Primary School thrive and achieve their full potential.

Thank you to all the parents who supported us by talking to the Inspectors and completing the questionnaires. Your continued support is much appreciated.

As a church school we also receive a SIAMS inspection carried out on behalf of the Diocese. It verifies that a church school is offering Christian content and reports whether children are being educated both socially and morally.

SIAMS Report Highlights (November 2015):

I am very pleased to share with you the inspection report from our most recent Church inspection (10th November 2015). The report highlights that the school is outstanding in its distinctiveness and effectiveness as a Church of England school. I would like to thank our staff, governors, parents and children who shared our good practice with the inspector during the inspection day. Please read the report below which identifies our key strengths and areas for further improvement.

Highlighted strengths:

‘The vision and drive of the headteacher, effectively supported by staff and governors has embedded strong Christian values that underpin all aspects of school life.’

‘The Christian distinctiveness of the school has a big impact on this small school community. Christian values are made explicit and have a significant impact on all learners' good achievements, excellent behaviour and supportive, caring attitudes.’

‘Relationships between all members of the community are a strength of the school and are attributed to Christian values such as service, respect and forgiveness.'

We are pleased with both our reports. They highlight what makes Clifton Hampden C of E Primary School special, corroborate our own self-evaluation and confirm that our children are nurtured whilst receiving teaching which allows each child to flourish.
